Oman's exports decline 5.5% by end of September


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The total value of exports from Oman - including oil and gas non-oil products and re-exports - recorded a decline of 5.5 per cent by the end of September 2014 totaling RO15.4bn compared to RO16.3bn recorded during the same period in 2013. 

Recently released trade and export statistics issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) revealed that the fall is due to a decrease in the value of oil and gas exports by 7.2 per cent declining from RO10.9bn by the end of September 2013 to RO10.1bn recorded by the end of September 2014.

During the same period the total value of re-exports also declined by 15.5 per cent recording RO2.3bn by the end of September 2014 compared with a total of RO2.7bn during the same period in 2014. In contrast nonoil exports registered a rise of 10.5 per cent in the same period to RO3.1bn recorded by the end of September 2014 compared with RO2.8bn recorded in September 2013.

According to the NCSI report the total value of merchandise imports through sea land and air outlets declined by 15.8 per cent by the end of September 2014 RO8.4bn compared with just under RO10bn during the same period of 2013. The total volume of merchandise imports by weight also registered a drop of 32.7 per cent by the end of September 2014 totaling 15.1mn tons versus 22.4mn tons by the end of September 2013.

The total value of merchandise imports through sea outlets declined by the end of September 2014 by 26.5 per cent to RO5.3bn compared with RO7.2bn during the same period in 2013. Meanwhile by volume imports by sea declined by 41.7 per cent to 8.4mn tons by the end of September 2014 as compared with 14.4mn tons during the same period in 2013. On the other hand the value of merchandise imports arriving via land outlets grew by 26.3 per cent RO2.5bn by the end of September 2014 compared with less than RO2bn during the same period in 2013.

During the same period the total value of merchandise imports arriving via air outlets declined by 22.4 per cent recording RO665.8mn compared with RO857.8mn by the end of September 2013. Additionally the volume of air imports by weight also recorded a drop of 47.9 per cent to 36200 tons by the end of September 2014 compared with 69600 tons during the same period in 2013.
