DSCE's Demand Side Management Executive Committee reviews action plan

(MENAFN- Emirates News Agency (WAM))  The Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, DSCE's Demand Side Management Executive Committee, has held its sixth meeting at its headquarters, chaired by Ahmed Butti Al Muhairbi, Secretary-General of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and Chairman of the Executive Committee.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, said, "The Dubai Supreme Council of Energy's Demand-Side Executive Committee has been formed in line with the Green Economy for Sustainable Development initiative launched by Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and the UAE National Agenda 2021. The Committee supervises implementing the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030 to reduce energy demand by 30% by 2030." "We have a clear vision to establish Dubai as a global role model in energy efficiency and security, in addition to investing in renewable and low-carbon energy projects and Smart Dubai initiatives," added Al Tayer.

"The Demand Side Management strategy, which is part of the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030, is the first of its kind in the region. It will provide new opportunities for energy service providers and energy sustainability and efficiency companies," said Al Muhairbi.

The meeting discussed the key achievements that the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and its government partners have made to achieve Dubai's vision to increase efficiency of energy use as an important element to enhance the competitiveness and economic sustainability of the Emirate.

The Dubai Supreme Council of Energy launched the Demand Side Management strategy in June 2013. The Executive Committee oversees implementing the strategy, which has eight programmes to manage energy demand. These include regulations for green building construction, retrofitting of existing buildings, district cooling, wastewater reuse, laws and standards to raise efficiency, and energy-efficient street lighting.
