Italian Senate pres. says Lebanon's role "strong point" in Mideast

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Visiting Italian Senate President Pietro Grasso applauded here on Monday Lebanon's regional role, deeming it as a "strong point" in the Middle East.

During a meeting with Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, Grasso said in a press remark that the work of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) troops in southern Lebanon reflects the significance of this role.

Grasso emphasized that his country continues to assist Lebanon in various fields, noting that he discussed with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon the continuation of the UNIFIL's work in South Lebanon.

Berri commended the European stance at the UN in support of Lebanon and the vote on the resolution which compelled Israel to pay compensation to Lebanon for losses happened during the Israeli aggression against Lebanon in 2006.

Grasso, accompanied by a Senate delegation, arrived in Lebanon earlier today on an official visit to hold talks with Lebanese officials.
