(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) The government of Syria has approved the delivery of medicine and surgical supplies to three areas of the country where aid workers previously were unable to reach regularly, including opposition-held Aleppo, the World Health Organization (WHO) said Monday.
Elizabeth Hoff, the WHO€„¢s representative in Syria, told Reuters the government now has promised access to Aleppo, the besieged Damascus district of Mouadamiya, and Eastern Ghouta, outside the capital.
€ÅIt is something that we have been negotiating, €¦ we have had top-level meetings. There has been a willingness from the ministry of Health and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We see a positive outlook,€€Œ Hoff said. €ÅWe€„¢re had some constraints in the past, €¦ but the situation is much better at the moment.€€Œ
All sides in Syria€„¢s civil war have prevented medicine from crossing front lines, fearing it could be used to help wounded enemy fighters.
