Oman Olympic Day celebrated


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The annual Oman Olympic Day organised by the Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) was celebrated with a host of activities across five cities in the sultanate on Monday.

In Muscat a walk was organised at Qurm Natural Park while a bowling event was held at the nearby Fun Zone. Fun activities were also held for schoolchildren at the park.

Talal al Mamari CEO of Omantel later distributed awards and certificates in the presence of Sheikh Khalid al Zubair OOC chairman and Mutassim al Zadjali OOC board member and head of the organising committee.

Hisham al Adwani OOC's director of Olympic Solidarity programmes told Muscat Daily 'Our goal is to bring together the people of Oman in this festive sporting event aimed at promoting awareness of the importance of staying active by engaging in sports activities.

'This was the first time in Oman that the OOC had organised the Olympic Day simultaneously across five cities bringing the spirit of the Olympic Games to the residents of the country.'

Last year the Olympic Day was organised in three cities. Apart from Muscat it was celebrated in Sohar Salalah Buraimi and Nizwa with similar events.
