US stocks mostly up ahead of Tuesday data deluge

(MENAFN- AFP) Wall Street stocks opened mostly higher Monday, following European markets upward ahead of a heavy day of economic data releases Tuesday.

Five minutes into trade, the Dow Jones Industrial Average stood at 17,879.42, up 74.62 points (0.42 percent) to 17,879.42.

The broad-based S&P 500 added 1.40 (0.07 percent) at 2,072.05, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index slipped 2.65 (0.06 percent) to 4,762.73.

Investors are looking ahead to Tuesday's economic reports, which include the third estimate of third-quarter gross domestic product and durable goods orders for November.

Trade volumes this week were expected to be low in light of a shortened trading day Wednesday and Thursday's holiday for Christmas.
