(MENAFN- Emirates News Agency (WAM)) Talented film and media students of the Higher Colleges of Technology's Applied Communications Faculty have been honoured by the HCT at a special ceremony for continuing the tradition of winning major prizes at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival, ADFF.
Four HCT student-made films were shortlisted out of 58 entries submitted in the 2014 ADFF's Emirates Film Competition, with three students winning short film awards.
The students and recent graduates from the HCT's Abu Dhabi Men's College, ADMC, Abu Dhabi Women's College, ADWC and Sharjah Women's College, SWC, took the major prizes of the New York Film Academy Abu Dhabi "Aspiring Filmmaker Awards" and the Student Short Narrative Competition announced at the annual film festival.
These accolades come after four HCT-Abu Dhabi Women's College students, and an Abu Dhabi Men's College student won similar awards at the 2013 Abu Dhabi Film Festival.
The students and their faculty mentors were feted at a special Vice Chancellor's Excellence Awards ceremony in Abu Dhabi, where HCT Vice Chancellor Dr. Tayeb Kamali was joined by Dr. Hamad Odhabi, HCT Executive Dean of the Applied Communications Faculty, Faculty Chairs and heads of department to celebrate the students' achievements.
Dr. Kamali congratulated the students, saying their work were samples of the excellence seen every day in the Higher Colleges of Technology. "The Film Festival entries are wonderful examples of our students learning how to utilise the skills and knowledge they gain from their courses in a practical approach to their education. Being engaged in this way, our students are readying themselves for future careers in the film, and related, industries as work-ready graduates," Dr Kamali said.
"We also thank the faculty who make sure that our students continue to excel in every part of the Higher Colleges and that the best work is on display wherever you go," Dr. Kamali added.
The three winning entries were shown to an appreciative audience of students and faculty members. The student film-makers whose films were short-listed, as well as the winners, were presented with certificates by Dr. Kamali. Faculty mentors were also recognised for their efforts in the mentoring process for the films which often saw them work as writers, producers and editors.
