Japan's supermarket sales down in November


(MENAFN) Local media reported that Japan's supermarket sales in November dipped 0.7 percent from a year ago, marking the eighth consecutive month of declined, Xinhua reported.

According to the Japan China store Association, sales at 9.337 stores operated by 60 supermarket chains totaled USD9.04 billion, adding that the country's spending remains sluggish.

Food sales, which accounts for about 62 percent of the total, rose 0.9 percent on yearly basis, while clothing sales fell 7.4 percent as winter items' sales were poor amid the relatively warm weather.

Convenience stores sales run by 10 major companies were down 1. 7 percent in the same period to USD6.08 billion, down for the eight consecutive month, the Japan Franchise Association said.
