UK car output to remain flat in 2014 on exports drop

(MENAFN) According to a British industry source, the country's car production will remain flat by year-end on a drop in exports due to weak foreign demand which fell in November, Oman Observer reported.

Overall output declined on-year by 0.2 percent last month to 137,348 units, while exports, which account for four in five of all British-built models made, were down 6 percent, whereas domestic demand rose by nearly a third.

November's drop, the fourth month in a row that output has failed to match last year's equivalent figures, leaves British car production down 0.3 percent in the January-November period of the year.

"Model changes and economic uncertainty in export markets have flattened UK car production, but the industry remains in a strong position" the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) said.
