FCA US expands Takata air bag recalls to 3.3m

(MENAFN) FCA US, formerly known as Chrysler Group, said it is expanding its US regional recall of models with potentially defective Takata air bags to include 3.3 million units, The Peninsula Qatar reported.

FCA is one of other five automobile asked by US regulator National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in November to expand the recall beyond a limited area with high humidity.

The FCA's total for Takata Corp-related recalls is now 3,672,770 vehicles. Meanwhile, the total number of vehicles recalled by all automakers over Takata air bag issue tops 24 million.

Takata said that extended exposure to high humidity could damage the propellant in the inflators, causing them to spray vehicle occupants with metal shrapnel when the air bags inflate.
