NCB delegation meets Egyptian FM on initiatives for Syria

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) General coordinator of National Coordination Body for Democratic Change in Syria (NCB) Hassan Ismail Abdulazim discussed on Saturday with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri the developments in Syria and ways to reach a political solution to the crisis, including the plan of UN Special Envoy of the Secretary General for Syria Staffan de Mistura.

After the meeting, Abdulazim said that the meeting was "constructive and fruitful," stressing that the body which is composed of several Syrian leftist parties, including three main Kurdish parties has placed great hopes on the Egyptian role.

"We want an active role for Egypt for the great Arab nations and homeland and as part of a national project uniting all around it," Abdulazim said.

"Because Egypt is the biggest country in the region, we count on its great role in bringing about an upsurge in the efforts aiming to settle the Syrian crisis and reactivate Arab League and Arab joint action," he pointed out.

Abdulazim added they want prospects of a negotiated political solution to end the internal tyranny and transform Syria into a civilian democratic state, including maintaining Syria's territorial structure unity and people with rejection to violence and extremism.

The NCB coordinator called on the opposition forces in Syria to develop consensus under one program and vision, including the adaptation of a political solution and the transformation into a complete national democratic country.

Asked whether the truce in Aleppo was sufficient to move towards a political solution, Abdulazim said de Mistura plan was meant to cover several governorates not only Aleppo which was only a starting point.

He reaffirmed support to the plan, calling on the UN envoy to make more clarification on it, stressing that their "problem is not against one person but with the entire system of authoritarian and exclusionary approach which does not recognize the opposition." "We want to start negotiations through a regional, Arab and international grounds to reach political solution without preconditions," Abdulazim added.
