Dubai's Dewa approves USD6.22b budget for 2015


(MENAFN) Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) announced it has approved a total budget of USD6.22 billion for 2015, compared with USD5.59 billion for the budget in 2014, with the increase aimed to be spent on ensuring a reliable supply of electricity and water to meet Dubai's development plans, Gulf News reported.

Dewa said that the budget will enable it to adopt the best and latest technologies across all its operations, as well as enabling it to provide electricity and water at the highest levels of reliability, efficiency, safety, and sustainability to the emirate.

According to Dewa, the budget is set to be divided on several important projects, with USD2.25 billion being assigned for capital purchases and projects, compared with USD1.92 billion in 2014.

These projects include increasing the production capacity of the electricity generation and water desalination plant at K-Station in Jebel Ali by adding two gas turbines to generate 500MW, as well as increasing the The production capacity of the electricity and water generation plant at M-Station in Jebel Ali, which will also be increased by 700MW.

Meanwhile, USD160.62 million will be spent on water network projects including water reservoirs and transmission networks, while USD47.64 million will be used on developing the water network, including the extending of new networks and introducing a district meter system to monitor leakage and reduce water losses.۬

"This important strategic reserve will significantly contribute to meeting the electricity and water requirements of the economic, commercial, industrial, urban and tourism development projects, reaffirming Dewa's ability to deliver the Emirate's water and electricity needs according to the highest standards of efficiency and reliability," Managing director and chief executive officer of Dewa said.
