(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Three-month period ends in Ras Al Khaimah; 50% discount given only for speeding fines

Brigadier Ghanim Ahmed Ghanim Director-General of the Central Operations RAK Police said only the fines imposed by the traffic police on the emirate’s roads were eligible for the discount.

“The official figures show that 45163 motorists benefited from the three-month grace period instructed by His Highness Shaikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah.”

The 50 per cent cut spans pending fines for speeding violations caught by the traffic police’s fixed or portable radars on the emirates’ internal roads and highways he added.

“All fines imposed due to other traffic violations particularly those that posed a risk to road users’ lives and ended in vehicle impoundment were excluded from the fine discount.”

Driving at more than 160km/h jumping the red signal racing tinting car windows above the limit and the like were not included in the discount offer he elaborated.

Brig Ghanim said the move was meant to reduce the financial burden on erring drivers and encourage them to pay pending fines and to be more cautious on the road. “The move was also aimed to help motorists renew their expired registration cards.”

Now no more discounts shall be available for errant drivers he warned.

“As the three-month discount period ended on Thursday erring drivers will have to pay the fines in full.”

Brig Ghanim said the fine discount offer was integrated into the unified federal traffic system across the country.

“As such the erring drivers were able to pay their fines at the traffic department in any of the emirates.”
