Kuwait to Host 18th GCC Envrironment Ministers Meeting


(MENAFN- QNA) Kuwait will host the 18th meeting of the ministers in charge of environment affairs in the Gulf Cooperation Council member states on December 25 to coordinate stances and review the latest developments in the domain.

"The meeting will serve as a platform for consultations and exchange of views about the progress in the efforts exerted to preserve the environment and find suitable solutions to environment problems," Minister of Oil and Minister of State for National Assembly Affairs Ali Al-Omair told Kuwait news agency (KUNA) Thursday.

The conferee will mull boosting cooperation as well as coordinating stances at the regional and international events.

"The meeting reflects the GCC governments' eagerness to achieve the interests of their people through creating a healthy environment," Al-Omair said.

He added that the participants will discuss two Kuwaiti proposals for establishing a GCC environment e-gate and a network for combating land deterioration. They will also review cooperation programs and agreements with relevant international organizations, especially the UN, and regional countries such as Jordan, Morocco and Turkey.

Al-Omair applauded the role played by the GCC General Secretariat in coordinating and following up the implementation of the resolutions taken in previous meetings.
