Sharjah comes down heavily on illegals

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)  In response to the Khaleej Times report on beggars, the Sharjah Police have intensified inspections targeting illegals and beggars in various parts of the emirate.

CID officials said that since November and until Tuesday, the police arrested 775 illegals practicing illegal activities including begging. Such people pose a danger to the security and peace in society. They disturb the public on the streets by stopping them to beg or to sell fake products. Some of them were caught for stopping people at parking areas and offering to wash their cars.

While some of them enter the country to practice begging, some are absconders and the rest are staying in the country illegally.

Col. Jihad Sahoh, director of search and investigation department said most of the illegals were found not only begging but were staying in isolated houses, workshops, under-construction buildings and in labour accommodations.

He stressed that inspections will continue and appreciated the cooperation of the public and the media in ensuring safety and security in the emirate. He urged the public to continue cooperation by contacting Nageed at 800151 or 999.
