France seeks UN resolution on Mideast peace process

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) France said on Wednesday that it wanted a UN Security Council text on the peace process and the Palestinians' situation to be one that will get unity and unanimous support from all Council members.

The text is due to be submitted for debate and an eventual vote later Wednesday in New York and the Palestinians have said through Foreign Minister Riyad Al-Malki that the draft resolution is "largely inspired" by French proposals.

Al-Malki, along with Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Al-Arabi, met here on Tuesday with Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius to discuss the situation and the rising tensions and violence in the region.

"Our aim is to bring the international community together in support of the peace process," Foreign Ministry spokesman Romain Nadal said in answer to questions in a briefing Wednesday.

"Our wish is, therefore, that a text likely to get unanimity be presented to the Security Council," he added.

Nadal remarked that the Palestinians have announced the submission of a text in New York. We will examine it in light of this objective (above)."
