Syrian troops lost 120,000 lives in 45 months


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported Wednesday that the regular troops and pro-regime militias suffered more than 12,000 fatalities in 45 months of fighting with the opposition forces.

The regular troops and loyal militiamen, whether local, Arab or Asian, suffer heavy human losses with their death toll rising to 10,949 in the five months ending on December 16.

On the field situation, SOHR said fighting is still raging between the Syrian troops and the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in the vicinity of Deir Azzor airbase.

The regular troops are advancing from the directions of Huwaijat Sakr and Al-Jafra towns near the airbase amid heavy exchange of fire.

A new mass grave was found in Al-Kashkia area on the eastern rural outskirts of Deir Azzor; it includes 230 bodies reportedly executed by ISIL.

The figure took to 900 the number of victims of Al-Sha'itat tribes at the hands of ISIL in the eastern governorate of Deir Azzor.

The Air Force committed a new massacre in Al-Wa'el district of Homs yesterday where 32 civilians, including five children three of who are from one family, were killed in air attacks.
