Kuwait- Informatics Award holds 6th dialogue

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) His Highness Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Informatics Award on Wednesday held its 6th dialogue assembly on "Informatics industry in the Arab sites and applications." The dialogue was attended by representatives of many Arab e-governments, research centers and technological associations.

Participants emphasized the importance of the "partnership spirit," which the Award has been keen to reinforce through its activities and events since it was launched in 2001.

They reviewed various topics, topped with the experience of the Award jury members and what they thought of the websites and smart phone applications they assessed. They also shared their recommendations to promote the industry in the Arab World.

Since inception, the Informatics Award adopted partnership as a principle, prompted by a belief that it is the best way to counter challenges imposed by the digital revolution dominant over the past decades, Bassam Al-Shemmeri, member of the Award's Supreme Committee told the dialogue.

Based on this, the Award has established partnerships with many official and civil society institutions, he added.

For his part, jury member Adnan Shehab called for introducing a new prize for individuals, lauding the list of 50 sites and applications that ran for the awards, out of which came the winners of the 14th edition of His Highness Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Informatics Award.

Addressing the dialogue, chairman of the Central Agency for Information Technology (CAIT) Abdullateef Al-Suraie expressed pleasure for working with distinguished Arab cadres.

Exchanging expertise with some of the "best Arab scientists" guarantees the Informatics Award more credibility, Director of Communications and Information Technology Research Institute at King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) Mohamed Alkanhal told the gathering.

He added that the criteria of arbitration, offered each jury member full freedom of assessment.

The dialogue was also attended by former Dean of Faculty of Information at Egypt's Modern University for Technology and Information, Sami Al-Sherif, a former Minister of Information; Director General of the UAE e-government Hamad Al-Mansouri; chairman of the Bahrain Internet Society Nawaf Abdulrahman and head of the Tunisia Internet Society Al-Munther Al-Obaidi.

Al-Obaidi pointed to the weak participation from North Africa, due to weakness of Arabic content since French is dominant in the region.
