Saudi- Officer sues doctor for medical error

(MENAFN- Arab News) A forensic committee in Jeddah is studying a case filed by a Saudi police officer who claimed that an Arab doctor had disfigured his face after two failed operations on his nose. The officer had earlier approached a hospital in Jeddah following acute headache. After a series of appointments the officer was advised by a doctor to have an operation to clear his left nostril.

One week after the operation the officer suffered severe pains and was forced to return to the doctor who did some X-rays and other tests and in the presence of the hospital director advised him to have another operation to correct a medical error which occurred during the first one local media said.

Despite the second operation the pains continued and the officer decided to visit other hospitals where it was uncovered that the doctor had made a serious medical error which had fractured the left bone of his eye.

A study of the case by an independent medical jury concluded that the doctor had indeed made a medical error notably in the second operation.

The doctor has since been banned from traveling pending the final ruling which is scheduled for the middle of next month a newspaper said.
