(MENAFN- Gulf Times) UK's Ambassador to Qatar, Nicholas Hopton, has described the relations between London and Doha as "historic" and praised the co-operation between the two countries in several areas.
In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the occasion of Qatar's National Day, Ambassador Hopton said: "National Day represents the best opportunity to celebrate the distinctive partnership with the State of Qatar."
The ambassador said, "The past year has seen the furtherance of bilateral relations between Qatar and the United Kingdom, the number of high-level visits has risen between the two countries significantly, and the most prominent example of the depth of renewable bilateral relations between the two countries was the state visit by HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani to the United Kingdom last October."
"We have made great efforts to enhance bilateral relations between the United Kingdom and the State of Qatar and consolidate the historical friendship between the two countries, and good relations between the two peoples," he said referring to the increasing number of different fields of work between the two countries, and trade relations going in the right direction.
He described the co-operation existing between the State of Qatar and the United Kingdom as "strong in all areas, and we would like to take every opportunity to keep those strong ties and strengthen co-operation among us, and we are working to support the efforts of the State of Qatar to achieve the national vision for 2030 and the ongoing preparations for hosting a successful session for the 2022 World Cup."
He said, "We look forward to working closely together to strengthen and expand bilateral co-operation between the two countries," he stressed. "I look forward to seeing the formation of new areas of co-operation with the continued growth of this partnership."
The British diplomat extended greetings on the occasion of the National Day, saying: "On behalf of the British people and myself, I would like to extend my warmest congratulations on the occasion of the National Day, wishing HH the Emir of the State of Qatar and the government and people prosperity, peace and immense joy."
