(MENAFN- Arab Times) A recent report released by the Ministry of Finance indicated the Ministry of Communications was unable to collect KD 94.400 million in accumulated bills from consumers as of November, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
The daily quoting a source said the debts related to telephone, postal and telegraph services provided to individual and corporate bodies. The report cautioned against public funds wastage, seeing that the bills have been accumulating for several years and moved from one budget to another without collecting it.
Sources cast blame on the concerned department in the ministry based on lackluster attitude of the officials, indicating weakness of the mechanism of operation., and accused the department of depending on an outdated model of collecting overdue bills in the current period where counterparts in other ministries are using modern technology to boost the national treasury and creating alternative sources of income, apart from crude oil.
MEW to experiment gas turbine units: Ministry of Electricity and Water will launch the operation of experimenting gas turbine units in February 2015 to add 500 megawatts in order to increase the gross production of the country, which is currently at 14,000 megawatts.
Reliable sources explained that the project is aimed to improve the efficiency and productivity in handling the local industries and carrying out the country's housing policies by providing electricity to the new cities and the ones that are yet to be built.
They indicated that the ministry held a preliminary meeting to discuss about the project of adding 500 megawatts to the output of Al-Subbiya Power Station.
The sources also indicated that they are expecting the project will be presented to the specialized companies by the beginning of 2015, stressing that the ministry has a plan to increase its productivity to about 20,000 megawatts by year 2020.
