(MENAFN- QNA) Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is to travel to the Middle East early next year to help stabilize the situation in the region, Japan's NHK World reported.
The planned visit in mid-January will cover Egypt, Jordan, Israel and the Palestinian Territories.
Abe hopes to promote his policy of proactively contributing to peace and to agree with regional leaders that they should work closely together to deal with Islamic State militants.
He plans to tell Palestinian leaders that Japan is ready to help with the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, which was badly damaged by the fierce fighting between Israel and Hamas early this year.
He is also expected to urge Israeli and Palestinian leaders to resume peace talks.
