Jordan, Britain discuss ties, Mideast developments


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency)  Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs, Nasser Judeh, and British Minister for the Middle East and North Africa, Tobias Ellwood discussed Jordanian-British ties and the latest regional developments.

Judeh stressed the importance of intensifying international efforts to resume peace talks between the Palestinians and Israel till the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, according to international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative.

Both sides reviewed the developments arising out of the Syrian crisis, and called for a political solution that ensures Syria's unity with the participation of all components of the Syrian people.

Judeh spoke about the enormous pressure on resource-poor Jordan in hosting those displaced by the Syrian crisis and its impact on the Kingdom's economy and infrastructure.

He also called upon the international community to assume its responsibilities in assisting the countries hosting the refugees.

The talks dealt with the necessity to increase efforts to ward off terrorism, destructive ideology aimed at distorting the image of Islam as well as extremism in the region.

Ellwood expressed his country's appreciation and support for the pivotal role of Jordan in bringing regional peace and stability, and bearing the burden of hosting the large numbers of Syrian refugees, despite the difficult economic conditions in Jordan.
