Oman succumbs to another loss


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman succumbed to its second successive defeat in the ongoing GCC Twenty20 Gulf Cup women's cricket tournament suffering a seven-wicket loss at the hands of UAE in Al Amerat on Tuesday.

UAE's Bonfilia Pereira claimed three wickets for eight runs to help dismiss Oman for a paltry 45.

Akshadha Gunasekar top-scored for Oman with 19. Samiya Salim with three for five and Subha Venkatraman with two for nine gave Akshadha good support.

In the day's other game that was also played at the same venue it was a thrilling contest as the Kuwait girls snatched a tense one-run victory against Qatar.

Maryam Omar hit 24 to help Kuwait post a total of 88 for nine with Ayesha Mohammed claiming three for 24.

In reply Qatar managed to put up 87 for eight in 20 overs narrowly falling short of the victory target of 89.

Maryam starred with the ball for Kuwait claiming a match-defining four for 14.

Brief scores: Oman 45 in 20 overs (Akshadha Gunasekar 19; Bonfilia Pereira 3-8 S Samiya 3-5 Subha Venkatraman 2-9) lost to UAE 46-3 in 6.3 overs (Esha Oza 14 Subha 13; Babli Kushan 2-24).

Kuwait 88-9 in 20 overs (Maryam Omar 24 Varshini Suresh 18 n.o; Ayesha Mohammed 3-24 Zainab Jabir 2-12 Divi Mishra 2-55) beat Qatar 87-8 in 20 overs (Ayesha 26 Maryam 4-14).
