Oman books playoff berth

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman edged out Saham 4-3 in a high-scoring affair to progress to the playoffs of the His Majesty's Cup Hockey Championship at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex on Tuesday.

In its crucial playoff Oman will take on Dhofar for a place in the second round of the competition.

In another match played on the same day Seeb was in full flow hammering Al Salam in a 6-1 win at the Sohar Sports Complex to finish second in its group.

In an inconsequential match Al Nasr routed Al Ittihad 11-0 in Salalah.

Al Nasr which is the defending champion and Salalah had already qualified for the second round from Group B. Ahli-Sidab Seeb and Salam are the teams to progress from Group A.

In a late game Al Nasr defeated Al Itihad 4-2 in a penalty-shootout in Salalah to enter the last eight.

On Monday Salalah claimed the second direct qualification spot from its group comprising teams of the Salalah region.

Ahli-Sidab finished on top of Group A and was joined by Seeb and Al Salam in the next round.

The fourth team from the group that will feature in a playoff against Dhofar will be Saham or Oman.
