Indian School Salalah project wins Energy Globe Award Oman 2014


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Project GreenOman - a children's initiative from Indian School Salalah (ISS) has bagged the Energy Globe Award Oman 2014.

Project GreenOman is an initiative that strives to help clean the environment and make Oman a greener country. 'The project raises awareness of humans' negative effect on the environment and how to change it to a positive one. Project GreenOman has chosen six topics for the campaign in Oman: climate change and global warming ecosystem conservation recycling/waste management green buildings water conservation and spreading awareness about the need to conserve nature. The project which began in 2012 is mostly run by children aged between nine and 13' a press release stated. The main purpose of the project is to promote environmental friendly behaviour as well as sustainable development and eco-friendliness in Oman.

With more than 160 participating countries and over 1000 project submissions annually the Energy Globe Award is among te most prestigious environmental prize worldwide. It distinguishes projects regionally nationally and globally that conserve resources such as energy or utilise renewable or emission-free sources. Award ceremonies are held all over the world. 

Hridith Sudev a ninth grade student at ISS started Project GreenOman together with his friends after he realised the grave impact modern life has on Earth the release stated.
