A plane carrying 100 tonnes of medical assistance on Monday took off to Egypt where it will then be delivered to the Gaza Strip through the Rafah Border Crossing in implementation of directives of Shaikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region and Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC).

The consignment is part of the 400 tonnes of medical aid donated by the Ras Al Khaimah-based Gulf Pharmaceutical Industries (Julphar) and valued at Dh12 million in support of the health sector in Gaza which is facing tremendous challenges due to the Israeli blockade. The remaining aid will be airlifted by three additional flights.

Dr Mohammed Ateeq Al Falahi ERC Secretary-General said Shaikh Hamdan was closely following the evolving humanitarian situation in Palestine noting that his directives underlined the UAE’s pioneering humanitarian role in Palestine and supported the ERC’s humanitarian efforts there.
