(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qatar Music Academy (QMA) will start holding programmes in latest music technology from January, Yassine Ayari, music teacher at QMA, disclosed yesterday.
Speaking to Gulf Times during the opening ceremony of the Music Technology Laboratory at QMA, Ayari said the courses would be on two latest technologies in music .
The Music Technology Laboratory was jointly opened by Dr Abdul Ghafour al-Heeti, principal of QMA, and Stephen Kelly, president and general manger of Occidental Petroleum Qatar (Oxy Qatar).
"We will start the courses in the teaching of Finale and Sibelius, two of the most advanced software in music technology. These are used to edit and write notations. We have only limited seats in the lab and will try to accommodate as many as we can," Ayari explained.
The official said more than 500 students are undergoing music classes in QMA at present. "Most of the students are learning western music. We have one to one classes, instrument classes and theory classes as well as choir. We are teaching notation, instrumental music as well as theory and all things related to the instruments."
"Each course has eight grades, with each grade lasting for one year. At the advanced levels, many of the students need not study for one year. If the students can pass through the exams at these levels before the allotted time, they can enter the next grade."
Dr al-Heeti recalled that Oxy Qatar donated more than QR1.1mn in 2013-2014 to cover the expenses of QMA. The laboratory has all the advanced technological equipment to ensure that the students will be trained on industry standards."
"QMA's mission is to develop promising, young talent from Qatar and the region to be next generation of world-class musicians."
Kelly hoped that the music lab would play a significant role in enhancing the music educational programme in Qatar. "We are pleased to be part of the preservation of musical heritage that QMA provides through its programmes."
