Kuwait- Amir Patronizes Confab On Women In Charitable Work Confab


(MENAFN- Arab Times) His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on Monday patronized and attended the inauguration ceremony of the international conference on the "role of women in charitable work." Also present were His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Ali Al-Ghanim, former parliament speaker Jassem Al-Kharafi, senior sheikhs, His Highness Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Sheikhs, GCC Secretary General Abdulatif Al-Zayani, Deputy Minister of Amiri Diwan Affairs Ali Jarrah Al-Sabah and senior state officials.


The conference got underway with the National Anthem and Quranic verses, then His Highness was honored for the recent UN designation as a "Humanitarian Leader." For his part, Dr Abdullah Al-Maatouq, Chairman of the International Islamic Charitable Organization (IICO), addressed the attendees, namely His Highness the Amir, His Highness the Crown Prince and the other senior leaders and dignitaries, saying he was grateful to His Highness the Amir for attending the conference, providing all forms of support for "our initiative aimed at enabling the woman make accomplishments in the charitable field." "Such generous sponsorship on part of His Highness reflects his ardent advocacy of the women status and their important role in building and developing the society," Dr Al-Maatouq said, in part.

His Highness Sheikh Sabah has adopted humanitarian issues while the world is gripped with seditions, catastrophes, conflicts, claiming lives every day.

Dr Al-Maatouq noted that the United Nations has recently crowned His Highness the Amir as "Humanitarian Leader," in appreciation for his unlimited role in the domain of humanitarian and development works, as well as for leading Kuwait in the realm of humanitarian activities.

This conference is in line with objectives of the IICO, supporting all segments of mankind, contributing to women volunteering and charitable efforts for sake of optimum productivity.

A series of workshops at this level have been organized since March 2012, resulting in "common understanding that hurdles obstructing the women role include social and cultural taboos, non-Islamic traditions and customs," he said.

For his part, Minister of Justice and Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Yaacoub Al-Sanea noted the woman pivotal role in the Muslim communities, namely in the sector of charity activities, noting that His Highness the Amir was the first among Arab and Muslim leaders who "activated the term charitable diplomacy," reiterating that he did earn the UN title, "Humanitarian Leader."
