Expo 2020 Dubai Higher Committee welcomes BIE team

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)  The Expo 2020 Dubai Higher Committee has officially received the Secretary General, Vicente Loscertales, from the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), the governing body of World Expos.

This is the first official visit by the Secretary General since Dubai was selected as host for the 2020 World Expo in November 2013. The purpose of the visit is to build on the ongoing partnership with the BIE and to provide them with an update on the Expo 2020 Dubai progress.

Shaikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Aviation City Corporation, President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman of Emirates airline, Chief Executive of the Emirates Group and Expo 2020 Dubai Higher Committee Chairman, as well as other members of the Higher Committee, welcomed the BIE Secretary General in Dubai. "We are pleased to continue our strong collaborative relationship with the BIE and welcome their affirmation, support and unique insight in ensuring that Expo 2020 Dubai meets all requirements for the Registration Phase and becomes a truly exceptional World Expo. This visit further supports our commitment to ensure Expo 2020 Dubai is a global platform for partnerships aimed at charting a sustainable course for humanity on our common journey to 2020 and beyond," said Shaikh Ahmed.

The Higher Committee presented an update on developments of all critical work streams related to the mega-event, which are required as part of the mandatory registration phase. Pertinent issues associated with the event, including theme development and implementation, master plan and site works, participant and visitor engagement strategies, communication and marketing, business operations and legacy were discussed.

"As the first World Expo to be held in the Middle East, African and South Asian region, Expo 2020 is on course to become a truly meaningful event; one that is a platform for partnerships and innovation and one that leverages the global convening power of World Expos to bring together different identities and experiences from hundreds of nations, companies and international organisations in ways that we have not seen before," said Loscertales.
