Joint ventures with Jordan coming up: Russian Envoy

(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) "Russian Ambassador to Jordan Boris Bolotin reviewed on Monday various aspects of bilateral cooperation, mainly those agreed to by the Joint Jordanian-Russian Ministerial Committee, which will eventually cover several domains over the coming four years.

Bolotin added that the Kursk State Medical University is mulling a plan to collaborate with the Jordan University of Science and Technology to build a small satellite for scientific purposes, stressing that Russia continues to encourage such ventures through reciprocal academic visits, the last of which resulted in inking of a number of agreements related to joint scientific research programs.

Russia provided Jordan more than 60 scholarships in different disciplines, such as medical, nuclear engineering and mining, for the academic year 2014-2015 and pledged to increase the number of grants next year, Bolotin explained.

According to Bolotin, other supportive programs will also be offered to Jordan, including one worth $3.5million to be implemented jointly next year to develop Jordan's civil defence potential. Another project in the field of ensuring proper nutrition at the school level, funded by Russia at a cost of $12million, will be implemented as part of the framework of the World Food Program.

Speaking on the hurdles facing economic cooperation between the two countries, Bolotin said the crisis witnessed in the region poses logistical obstacles to Jordanian land exports to Russia.

Referring to the situation in the Middle East, Bolotin termed it a matter of serious concern for his country, especially in the light of increasing extremism and terrorism, stressing that Russia remains open to confront these phenomena in the region.
