PM briefed on Jordanian uranium project


(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) "Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour was briefed about the Jordan Uranium Project during a meeting he chaired at the Prime Ministry on Monday.

International uranium expert and consultant to Jordan Uranium Mining Company (JUMCO), Marat Abzalov made a presentation at the briefing and spoke about the studies conducted in central Jordan that had revealed the presence of potential uranium reserves in the central region, estimated at 37,000 tonnes.

He voiced the belief that the reserves will eventually be found 17,000-21,000 tonnes more than the initial estimate as excavation teams would resume work in the central region next year.

Reserves discovered till date stand at 37,000 tonnes and are capable of supplying a 100 megawatt nuclear plant with uranium for 200 years.
