Qatar- Brilliant Aseer claims Ad Dibal Cup at QREC


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Aseer yesterday stormed to Ad Dibal Cup win with an emphatic run as jockey Marvin Suerland celebrated four impressive wins at the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC).

Ridden by T O'Shea, Asser edged Moaddie and Sraab to the winning post in the 1900m dirt track race much to the delight of trainer Mohammed Al Yaqout.

"To be honest, I worked a lot on that horse. He had some stomach issues. He wasn't eating well. We had to work hard to prepare him for this race," Al Yaqout said after Aseer finished half a length ahead of Moaddie.

"I only go for selected races. I don't like to play with that horse," he added.

O'Shea was thrilled with the outcome that landed him the top prize of QR57,000.

"I rode him in five races and he has won all five. He is a special horse to me," O'Shea said.

"He's very tough and he's very genuine," he added.

"Today I just thought I will reserve some petrol at the start and let go at the end. I quickened at the straight. He looks in better condition," he said.

Earlier in race seven, Pearl Bridge emerged a runaway winner as jockey Suerland celebrated his fourth win of the day.

Building on his fine start, Suerland picked up pace at the end to seal win in the 1800m race with a time of 1:52.29 leaving One Cool Bex and Exodus in second and third spots respectively.

Pearl Bridge, trained by Z Mohsen, won by a length while One Cool € ridden by Evert Pheiffer € secured the second spot ahead of Exodus who had Salem Golam in the saddle.

Suerland emerged a convincing winner with Emaad in race six, leaving Sunely Pride and Freckenham battling for the second spot in the 1800m contest.

Emad, trained by Mohsen, topped the dirt track race with a time of 1:55.26 sealing the win three lengths ahead of Pride who had Golam in the saddle.

Third-placed Freckenham - with Amotasem Al Balushi in the saddle € was engaged in a keen tussle for the second spot but Pride crossed the winning post in second spot. Rabha braved a late onslaught from Ladys Sandman to complete €Žin race five. Rabha topped the field with a time of 2:06.84 giving O'Shea his first win of the evening. Ladys Sandman € ridden by Golam € narrowed the gap between him and Rabha but failed to seal the win.

Third-placed Al Nefor finished three and a half lengths behind Rabha.

Suerland scored his second win of the day when piloted Archers Prize past the winning post in race four. Archers Prize finished with a time of 1:55.68 in the 1800m race that saw Haayil - who had Stephan Ladjadj - claim second spot.

Building on his fine start, Archers Prize emerged a runaway winner in the end.

In third place was Khudoua ridden by R Mullen. Al Mostarsil €Žposted a hardfought win by claiming the honours in race three. Ridden by Suerland, Al Mostarsil pipped Hassiba who had Marco Monteriso in the saddle. Al Mostarsil, given hot chase by Hassiba, clocked a time of 1:19.04 in the 1200m race. In third spot was Nomaas who was ridden by Gary Carter.

In race two, Istara survived a late onslaught by Meghwar to win the 1800 contest.

Ridden by Pheiffer, Istara completed the win ahead of Meghwaar who had Mullen in the saddle. In third place was Al Hattal with rider Alberto Sanna.

Earlier in the evening, Sahaba Al Uraiq started the day with a convincing win with jockey Declaan Cannon. Al Uraiq completed the win with a time of 1:18.77. In second place was Sirat Al Naif - ridden by Gerald Avranche € while Nazala Al Naif who had Suerland in the saddle € finished third in the 1200m race.

Today at QREC the riders will return to battle for the Qatar National Day Trophy. The first of the eight-race series starts at 4:00pm.
