Dutch firm shows the way to integrate Omani employees

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) A Dutch engineering firm says it has found a way to better integrate Omani employees.

Tebodin which has a branch in Oman undertook changes this year with the aim of making Omani employees more productive according to Jacqueline Nolta the company trainer.

She said that the company was earlier dominated by  Western expatriates in upper management while Indians dominated the middle management squeezing the Omanis that the company hired.

'Omanis have to fight to get their place' she said.

Jacqueline said that once the company focused on greater investment in Omani employees such as training and entrusting them with projects they proved their capability. 'Most of them really want to work' she said. 'They want to make a difference but we have to give them a chance.'

Mohammed al Ruqaishi an employee of Tebodin said 'All Omani recruits have to go through an in-house training programme for the first four years. Omanis currently comprise 20 per cent of the company's management.'

Recently Jacqueline and her trainees showcased the benefits of this reorientation through a presentation to the company's top-level management at the Ministry of Education auditorium in Wattayah.

The Omanis gave presentations on their work in English. 'We realised that there is so much potential...here for all these Omanis' said Ruqaishi.

'Tebodin took this initiative... not just to recruit Omanis but to develop them.'

Jacqueline said the event was an important way for Omanis to show their accomplishments and hoped that other companies could learn from Tebodin's experience.

'This is the final show' she said. 'This will be a message that this is possible.'
