Ruble falls by 8% in one day, trading at over 63 to the dollar


(MENAFN- AFP) The Russian ruble suffered a mini-crash Monday, falling by eight percent in a single day despite a policy of regular interventions by the central bank.

The ruble was trading at 63.40 to the dollar and 78.81 to the euro at 1600 GMT, plummeting from the rate of 58.18 to the dollar and 72.28 to the euro.

In total the Russian currency has lost 48 percent of its value against the dollar and 42 percent against the ruble this year.
