Sharjah — Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq has been ruled out of the remaining one-day matches against New Zealand due to a hamstring injury.

Shahid Afridi who led the side during Misbah’s absence in the second one-dayer in Sharjah on Friday will lead the side in the remaining three ODIs. The third game was held in Sharjah on Sunday while the remaining matches will be hosted by Abu Dhabi.

According to a Pakistan Cricket Board official MRI scans revealed that Misbah required proper rest to recover from his injury. Misbah had hurt his hamstring during the second one-dayer in Sharjah. He sustained the injury in the third over of New Zealand’s chase and he did not take the field later.

The PCB has not confirmed whether Misbah will stay with the team or return to Pakistan.

“Shahid Afridi will now lead the side in the remaining three matches” a Pakistan Cricket Board official told a news agency on Sunday.

Pakistan have also recalled leg-spinner Yasir Shah and all-rounder Anwar Ali for the three ODIs. Fast bowlers Umar Gul (ankle) and Bilawal Bhatti (hand injury) were also sidelined and are returning home.

“Gul and Bhatti have been dropped owing to fitness issues while all-rounder Ali and leg-spinner Shah have been included” PCB chief selector Moin Khan said.

“Despite fitness issues dogging many key players it still remains a pretty strong side. And I am positive that it would perform to its potential in the three remaining ODI games” said Khan.
