Dubai — Shanshan Feng sealed a wire-to-wire win at the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters here on Saturday by maintaining her five-shot lead though to the end on the 18th hole.

The Chinese world number five registered a two-under par 70 on the fourth and final day to finish off on 19 under (269) having shot 66 67 and 66 in her three earlier rounds on the Majlis course.

This is Feng’s second triumph at this tournament following her first success two years ago and she is now joins Swedish legend Annika Sorenstam (2006 and 2007) as the only two-time ODLM champions in the tournament’s nine-year history.

However with the 25-year-old likely to defend her title in the emirate in 12 months’ time there’s every chance she could soon stand alone and peerless once more.

“I’m really happy because it’s my second time to win here” Feng admitted afterwards. “The staff have just told me I’m one of only two people that has won twice here and the other one is Annika (Sorenstam) so that makes me feel really proud of myself.

“Whenever you put your name up alongside Annika’s it’s a good sign and a good feeling. I’m going to keep coming back so maybe I have the chance to be the only one.

“I maybe put myself under too much pressure last year (when she was the defending champion). I had too many thoughts in my head so I didn’t really perform very well.

“But I’m really happy that I’ve done well this year and I would say the two tournament wins are pretty similar.

“Two years ago I was leading every day as well and I had a five-stroke lead heading into the final round too so I basically did the same thing.

“It feels as good as it did two years ago. I’m really happy and I’ll have the chance to maybe come back next year again.

“I just want to be fresh when I come back next year. I don’t want to put myself under too much pressure again and hopefully I’ll just play as well as I have done this year.

“A win is a good way to conclude the season. I’m really happy and I feel really comfortable going into the 2015 season.”

Surpassing Sorenstam isn’t the only thing on Feng’s agenda for 2015 though with the all-conquering South Korean Inbee Park’s world number one ranking also in her sights. “I don’t really like to set goals with numbers” the current world number five explained. “I try not to think about wanting to be the world number one.

“But at the same time I would say Inbee (Park) is the target right now that I want to catch up with. That’s another way to set up the target for me.”
