UAE- Woman accused of fooling flatmates robbing them of valuables

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) She said she was leaving for Qatar but returned at night to steal their jewellery money and other valuables.

A 31-year-old Uzbek woman allegedly fooled her flat mates by saying that she was travelling to Qatar but instead returned to their shared accommodation — when the others were away — and stole their jewellery money and other valuables a court heard. She was sharing an apartment with another Uzbek woman and a Russian lady.

The woman on October 1 allegedly used her key to enter the apartment and then used a kitchen knife to break into her flat mates’ bedroom to steal their money and other valuables.

She stood trial in the Court of First Instance on the charge of theft of valuables and money.

One of the flat mates a 42-year-old Uzbek on a visit visa said the accused came back to their apartment as she knew they would be out at that time. “When I came home around 1am I found the flat’s door open and the lights on. The bedroom’s door lock was broken and a kitchen knife was lying by the door. A suitcase was left open and empty on the bed.”

The building security guard told us that he saw the accused enter the building. “She parked her car outside the building when she could have parked inside the building as she has access to the building’s parking lot. We were surprised to hear that from him as we thought she had already gone to Qatar” the complainant said.

The women (flat mates) then checked the CCTV footage and saw the defendant enter the building through the emergency exit rather than the lift. “She entered with nothing in her hands and went out through the stairs with lots of stuff.”

Her other flat mate a 24-year-old Russian businesswoman said that the accused packed her bags around 2pm and left the flat saying she was travelling to Qatar via the Abu Dhabi International Airport. She later received a phone call from the other complainant informing her that their belongings were stolen.

A police lieutenant said that he was part of the team that arrested the accused shortly after the robbery incident was reported in a flat in Al Mankhool area.

“The accused initially denied her flat mates’ claims but later admitted to committing the theft. She confessed that she lied to her roommates that she was leaving for Qatar and returned at night to steal their valuables as she knew they would be out.”

Some of the money of different currencies was recovered from her place. She admitted that she stole money clothes jewellery and cosmetics from the other two women.
