Arab League to Participate in Geneva Conference

(MENAFN- QNA) The Arab League will take part in the Conference of High Contracting Parties to the Fourth Geneva Convention, due to be held in Switzerland next Thursday, at the ambassadorial level.

The Arab League delegation will be headed by Assistant Secretary General for Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories Affairs Mohamed Sobeih.

Sobeih said he will submit to the Conference, which was called by the Swiss government, the Arab vision on the commitment of the occupying authorities to the implementation of the Convention in the occupied territories, noting that Israel exercised considerable pressure on many parties to prevent the holding of this Conference but the Swiss government, despite these pressures and delays, succeeded in calling for this Conference on the 18th of this month.

Ambassador Sobeih said the Conference comes as a materialization of a request by the Arab ministerial delegation which visited Switzerland last August under Kuwait's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah who is also the representative of the Chairman of the Arabic Summit.
