(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The annual Oman Olympic Day will be organised by the Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) on December 22 with activities planned across five cities in the sultanate.
Addressing a press meet at McDonald's Restaurant in Qurm on Sunday Mutassim al Zadjali chairman of the Olympic Day organising committee said 'The Oman Olympic Day this year will be held simultaneously across five key cities - Muscat Sohar Salalah Buraimi and Nizwa.
'Our goal is to bring together the people of Oman in this festive sporting event aimed at promoting awareness of the importance of staying active by engaging in sports activities.'
Hisham al Adwani the OOC's director of Olympic Solidarity programmes said 'For the first time in Oman we are organising the Olympic Day simultaneously across five cities bringing the spirit of the Olympic Games to the citizens of the country. Last year we held the Olympic Day in three cities only. This time we want it to be bigger.
'Our objective is to bring together the people of Oman in the spirit of the Olympic Games creating more relevant and meaningful programmes aimed at raising awareness of the need for active and balanced lifestyle through various sports activities.'
The 2014 Oman Olympic Day is expected to attract a large attendance from local communities. The event will feature various sports activities and fun events including a walk around each of the five venues.
