Qatar- PM attends launch of Storage Areas Project


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani yesterday attended the launch of the Storage Areas Project at Dana Club.

He said the project follows directives of the Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to the government to enable the private sector, foremost of which being small and medium companies, to participate more in the national economy in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.

The Premier said the government acted in the light of these directives to support the non-oil sectors through initiatives, including the expansion of industrial areas and the increase of storage capacity, to keep pace with the needs of economic development, with meet challenges of inflation, reduce business costs and maintain consumers' security and health.

He said the project is part of the development of the logistics sector to support the private sector in its efforts towards comprehensive and sustainable development Qatar aspires under the leadership of the Emir who issued directives to strengthen possibilities for storage and improve conditions.

The Premier said directives to set up a logistics committee aimed to eliminate bureaucratic procedures in implementation of projects, adding that enabled us within a short time to offer land plots and create a fair and transparent competition to reach the signing of deals with companies to launch the project.

He said the project, expected to be completed within 24 months, will provide facilities at a competitive price for SMEs in terms of size based on global standards, bridge the gap between supply and demand in the storage market, cope with illegal and unsafe storage offers, contribute to reducing the high increase in the cost of public goods in general because of the availability of storage at a reasonable price, provide more jobs and support competitiveness of firms and the national economy.

The Premier witnessed the signing of construction contracts with the companies which will implement the project. Many sheikhs, ministers and senior officials were also present.
