(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The College of Agricultural & Marine Sciences at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) in association with the Embassy of Netherlands in Muscat and Wageningen University & Research Centre the Netherlands organised a symposium 'Aquaculture Development in Oman' on Sunday.
Speaking about the role the Netherlands plays in the field of aquaculture Tom Prinz junior economic office Embassy of the Netherlands in Muscat said 'The involvement of the private sector use of knowledge and the public sector which we call the golden triangle have helped the agricultural sector in the Netherlands become one of the most productive and innovative in the world. Capacity building is considered the backbone of our activities ranging from vocational training to MSc and PhD programmes from short courses to full-time programmes at all levels.'
Arjo Rothuis from Wageningen University & Research gave a presentation about innovations in recirculating aquaculture systems. This was followed by a presentation on 'Added value of applied science in business development in aquaculture and fisheries'. Another presentation titled 'Production of seaweed and algae as protein sources for aquaculture feed' was delivered by Jacques Neeteson from Wageningen UR. After the business to business discussions a session on 'Aquaculture business development in Oman' was held. The topics discussed included new ways of animal feed production.
The third session was earmarked for presentations from SQU researchers.
