(MENAFNEditorial) RasGas Company Limited (RasGas) in collaboration with Al Khor International Schools (AKIS) hosted 11 American teachers in Qatar on a cultural interchange tour of Middle East as part of the of the 6th annual Teachers Educating Across Cultures in Harmony (TEACH) fellowship.
The fellowship, offered to school educators from the U.S. by the Huston-based US-Arab Bilateral Chamber of Commerce (BUSACC), offers a cultural exchange programme that gives educators first-hand knowledge about the State of Qatar and the Middle East.
As part of the tour, the teachers visited AKIS, which boasts a culturally diverse student body from over 50 nationalities and offers both the British and Indian curricula. TEACH fellows had the opportunity to drop into classrooms for a taster lesson and exchange views with their peers and students.
"We are truly proud of our vibrant international identity and we are delighted to have been able to contribute to, and promote Qatar's reputation for diversity and cultural harmony. In addition to hosting the teachers, we were able to draw upon their valuable insight and expertise for some of the new programmes we are introducing at our school," said Dr Farid Nouri, RasGas Education Manager.
As a Qatari LNG company with businesses across the globe, RasGas' support for the TEACH initiative stems from a rooted belief in the value of building cultural bridges and understanding. It is one which the company has been supporting since 2009 and which forms an integral part of the company's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.
"As the world's cultures are being brought together by international trade and the off-shoring of jobs, the need for cultural tolerance, understanding and cooperation is of utmost importance. Educators in the U.S. benefit greatly from learning how their counterparts in other parts of the world address these issues. They can bring back what they've learned into the classroom here in the U.S. and better prepare the next generation for an increasingly complex world," said Aida Araissi, BUSACC Managing Director.

The programme strengthens the company's connection with Qatari society and community at large, and provides a structured framework for its corporate citizenship activities that are critical to sustainable development in Qatar.
The TEACH teachers also visited the U.S. Embassy in Doha, The Ministry of Education, Hamad bin Khalifa University, Qatar Academy, Al Jazeera Network, Al Shaqab Equestrian Center and landmark cultural and tourist destinations around Doha.
