Hassan calls for optimal support of elderly homes

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency)  Social development minister Reem Abu Hassan on Saturday declared her ministry's full support to the homes for the elderly throughout the Kingdom to enable them to provide services to "this segment of citizens" and meet their needs.

During a tour of a number of homes for the elderly in Amman and Russeifah, Hassan presented Christmas gifts to people housed in those centres and also offered cash to help them to accommodate and care for the elderly. She stressed the need to provide optimal services to the elderly and to people with disabilities.

"Giving attention to those homes and following up on their conditions is a key task for social development and is an obligation dictated by our conscience and humanity," she said.

Some 328 elderly people are housed in nine voluntary and private homes spread across the country, 136 of whom receive care at the ministry's expense.
