Qatar- Expats line up festivities for National Day


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) A number of expatriate communities in Qatar have named the activities they will be involved in as part of National Day celebrations.

The Qatar National Day Celebrations Organizing Committee in association with Ministry of Interior is organising the "Associated Activities of Qatar National Day Celebrations 2014'' in cooperation with Indian, Pakistani, Nepalese, Sri Lankan, Bangladeshi, Malaysian, Indonesian and Filipino communities, according to the Ministry of Interior statement yesterday.

Students from 18 Asian schools in the country will participate in Industrial Area, Wakra, Rayyan and Al Khor sports clubs on National Day - December 18 - from 8am to 10pm. By holding the programme at four locations, the Organizing Committee aims at providing a joyous atmosphere for the expatriate community members in Qatar to take part in celebrating the National Day at a place closer to them.

Indian and Sri Lankan community teams and students of Ideal, Pak Shama, Sri Lankan and Scholars Schools and Pakistani and Bangladeshi communities along with the students of the PEC, Bangladesh School, Bhavans, Shanti Niketan and TNG will be holding cultural shows at West End Park in the Industrial Area amphitheatre and Wakra Sports Club respectively.

The Indonesian, Malaysian and Filipino community teams and the students of the Philippines School, Doha Philippines International School, Noble and Doha Modern Indian School will be hosted at Rayyan Sports Club's indoor stadium while the traditional, cultural and folklore shows of the Nepalese community and Al Khor residential community teams and the performances of the MES Indian School, Bright Future, Birla, DPS-MIS and National KG will take place at Al Khor sports club.

The grand cultural fiesta at each of the 4 venues will start with the Qatar National anthem at 8am to be followed by a colourful thematic parade on Qatar by participating schools.

The morning session of the program will include cultural competition by schools whereas the schools will perform group songs and a thematic Qatar show followed by songs and performances of participating communities.

Tug of war and races will be held during the break between 12pm to 3pm. Community teams, school teams and various company teams will participate in these contests.

A football tourney will be held at Wakra, Rayyan and Al Khor sports clubs between company teams, community teams and school teams while the cricket match will be held at West End Park. The winning school teams will be awarded QR7,000 while QR5,000, 3,000, and 2,000 will be given for the second, third and fourth places respectively. Football match winners and runners up will be given a prize money of QR3,000 and 2,000 each.

The entry is free for nationals of all countries and special seating arrangements will be made for families at all venues. Similarly, Al Khor stadium will see a variety of festivities, entertainment shows and activities by Nepalese and Al Khor community teams and school students on December 18, according to a Ministry of Interior statement.
