Pakistan court acquits Zardari in two graft cases

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) An accountability court in Islamabad acquitted former president Asif Ali Zardari in two corruption references on Friday.

The National Accountability Bureau had reopened five references against the former president on October 12 2013 after the Supreme Court of Pakistan declared the controversial National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) illegal in 2009. The ordinance promulgated by former military ruler Gen. Pervez Musharraf in 2007 following a deal with slain premier Banazir Bhutto pardoned politicians and bureaucrats of corruption cases. The NAB revived a number of corruption references including the five in which Zardari was also allegedly involved. These references included Cotecna SGS ARY Gold Ursus tractors and polo ground cases.

The court on Friday acquitted him in the ARY and Ursus tractors deal references. Previously he was acquitted in the Polo ground reference.
