UAE- Tamil actor Sivakarthikeyan on the art of worship

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The actor who was in Khaleej Times yesterday for the inaugural Gulf edition of Tamil Daily Thanti was speaking about the difference in the way fans react to their favourite stars across the various Indian film industries.

Popular Tamil star Sivakarthikeyan cannot wait for the release of the much awaited film Lingaa that is out this weekend in the UAE. The 29-year-old actor told us that like any other Rajnikanth fan he will worship his favorite actor on screen. “Right now we are ready for Lingaa release. We will celebrate it in a big way and worship him on screen. It’s a big occasion he is coming back on screen after a long time (Rajnikanth was last seen in the animated Kochadaiiyaan in May 2014). This is still a big custom in both Tamil and Telegu cinema. I do not think this tradition will ever change in South Indian movies.”

The actor who was in Khaleej Times yesterday for the inaugural Gulf edition of Tamil Daily Thanthi was speaking about the difference in the way fans react to their favourite stars across the various Indian film industries.

The custom of worshiping film stars is common in the southern film industry particularly Tamil and Telugu.

“Yes it is more for Telegu cinema than Tamil. They worship screen actors a lot they think their heroes are divine. That should of course be there if its not there we cannot survive!” Sivakarthikeyan tells us with a humble smile. “We have to entertain them back equally in return. Fans do milk-abhishekam (sacred custom of bathing a deity in water milk honey) during the release of their favorite stars’ movies” said Siva while talking to City Times.

Siva is also working with Rajnikanth’s son-in-law Dhanush in Kakki Sattai that releases in January 2015. Music director Anirudh of viral hit number Kolaveri Di is making music for this film. Music release is all set to happen on the biggest day in Tamil cinema calendar this year December 12 the release date of Lingaa.

The popular actor who started off as a comedy reality show winner and then went on to become a much-in-demand television host and then to the big sceen told us that Tamil cinema is just waking up to the idea of promoting the film aggressively the way Bollywood does. “Tamil actors have just begun to start promoting their films in a big way especially after Chennai Express. SRK went to every city to promote his film; I followed the same strategy with my last film Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam. Because generally we go for theatre visits post the release of the films but now we are doing pre-release promotions as well.”

While sitting in our office the actor spoke fondly of Khaleej Times “Right from my childhood I have seen hoardings of Khaleej Times while watching cricket matches broadcast from the Sharjah Cricket Stadium so it’s a privilege to be here. I never imagined that I would be sitting here getting interviewed” said the actor for whom reading the newspaper every day is a habit he developed from childhood.
