(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The summit aims at bringing together various international governments to galvanize support in the battle against online child sexual exploitation.
UK Prime Minister David Cameron extended his heartfelt thanks to the United Arab Emirates represented by the Ministry of Interior for its kind initiative to host the upcoming global summit on ending online child sexual exploitation.
Prime Minister Cameron had inaugurated this year’s edition of the Global Summit on Ending Online Child Sexual Exploitation which was held in London from December 9 to 11 with representatives from 60 countries including 30 ministers from around the world. He pointed out that the summit aims at bringing together various international governments to galvanize support in the battle against online child sexual exploitation by developing mechanisms for joint and concrete action to identify and protect victims; arrest offenders and bring them to justice by preventing the continued abuse of the internet to exploit children for sexual gratification.
The UAE Ministry of Interior’s delegation taking part in the summit’s activities was headed by Major General Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi Secretary General of the Office of His Highness Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Higher Committee for Child Protection.
Major General Al Nuaimi met the British Home Secretary Theresa May who expressed her appreciation for the United Arab Emirates’ participation in this international forum. She also commended the UAE’s commitment and dedication to this incredibly important issue; which boosts efficiently all international efforts in this area.
She said “Convening this summit stems out of the world governments’ recognition of the horrendous scale of child online sexual abuse by abusers who seek to achieve sexual gratification and financial profits. Online sexual exploitation of children is a heinous crime and a substantial global problem that knows no borders; and it requires a coordinated global response and coordination.”
For his part Major General Al Nuaimi Chairman of the Higher Committee for Child Protection at the Ministry of the Interior and head of the UAE delegation to the summit said “This global summit designed to tackle online child sexual exploitation was the perfect opportunity to meet governments law enforcement agencies technology companies and civil society organizations to agree a range of concrete actions and build strong partnerships in order to create an international network to collaborate together across borders.”
Adding further he said the summit aims at being a turning point in the fight against this global crime and at coordinating international action to get illegal child abuse images removed from all web addresses across the world.
The UAE visiting delegation visited the National Crime Agency in London and reviewed the best global practices applied by police bodies in developed countries which would contribute to developing and improving police procedures and keeping abreast of developments and practices on the ground.
