BMW now offers hybrid power for all models

(MENAFNEditorial)

11 December 2014: Each member of the BMW range will soon come with the option of featuring a plug-in hybrid engine according to an official announcement. This will change the variety of fuel-efficient vehicles available to Scottish drivers.

BMW has released a significant number of powerful and prestigious vehicles over its illustrious history but now it is looking to expand its horizons through the introduction of a scheme that will allow buyers to select hybrid models of its whole range starting in 2016.

BMW spokesperson Helmuth Wiesler revealed that this was being made possible thanks to a modular approach to hybridisation which allows for the necessary electric motors to be fitted alongside petrol powerplants across all of its vehicles according to Auto Express.

The first of the bunch to get this treatment will be the X5 which will have a plug-in hybrid variant on sale in 2015. The following year will see the arrival of hybrid versions of the 3 Series and 2 Series before the plans are rolled out across every new BMW family of vehicles.

As the market for hybrid and electric cars grows rapidly BMW is clearly looking to secure a place amongst its international rivals. Indeed Mr Helmuth said that the firm is targeting a 10 per cent stake in the market by the end of the decade.

Some buyers will no doubt be concerned that opting for a hybrid BMW will lead to a dip in performance but BMW is keen to preserve the power of its vehicles while still making them a little greener for urban use. With fuel savings of up to 50 per cent possible with a hybrid engine this really could be the savvy choice for drivers and result in a shake-up of the market in Scotland and further afield.
