"Demographic Opportunity" liaison officers meet in Amman
(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) The Higher Population Council discussed on Wednesday the updated "Demographic Opportunity Policies Document" and the updated "National Follow-up Plan to Monitor and Evaluate Progress in the Achievement of and Investment in the Demographic Opportunity Policies".
This came during the 4th coordination meeting for the Demographic Opportunity liaison officers, who also discussed the "Population Projections" report and the updated "Higher Population Council Strategic Plan for 2015-2019".
The importance of updating the demographic opportunity document stems from the expectation that Jordan is on the verge of a historic demographic change that could result in demographic opportunities, according to a press release by the population council.
Such opportunities are usually accompanied by various social and economic changes, which can take the form of challenges in case they are not employed appropriately. However, with preparation, planning and monitoring of these changes, these can also become useful opportunities.
The demographic opportunity becomes increasingly evident when it involves the working age population of individuals aged 15-64 years.
